Primary Election Tuesday, March 6, 2012

A Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, March 6. For information on the ballot issue and candidates, poll hours & locations, and absentee voting click here.

Board of Elections Re-aligns Precincts

In order to eliminate the disparity in precinct sizes, the Board of Elections has re-aligned numerous precincts throughout Geauga County. Also, the Ohio General Assembly and the Ohio Apportionment Board have created new Congressional, State House and State Senate Districts. The changes are in effect for the March 6, 2012 Primary Election and for all future elections until we are notified differently. For more information on local precincts and polling places click here.

County Announces Widening of Hemlock Point Road

The Board of County Commissioners announced that they have approved the widening of Hemlock Point Road. Mr. Bob Phillips, Geauga County Engineer, explained the situation at the February 1st meeting of the Russell Township Board of Trustees. He stated that the 20 foot wide pavement on Hemlock Point Road is as narrow as any road in the western part of the county. He explained that accident rates drop with wider roads. Furthermore, he stated that in order to qualify for Federal funding for road repairs in the future, the road has to be brought up to standards. While the design for the Hemlock Point Road reconstruction is not yet complete, Mr. Phillips explained that the project will begin in the summer of 2012.

The road will have two ten foot wide lanes and a two foot wide shoulder on each side of the road. The existing pavement will be removed, ground up, and placed at the edge to form the shoulders. Removing the existing pavement will help prevent the profile of the road from becoming higher. Slopes to roadside ditches will be made more gradual. Mr. Phillips explained that new drive pipes will be installed for residents. The right-of-way is 80 feet wide on Hemlock Point Road. Mr. Phillips stated that the work limits of the project would be smaller than the full 80 foot right-of-way. Mr. Phillips does not yet know how many trees will be affected. He did state that some flower beds and shrubbery would be removed. Early cost estimates for the Hemlock Point Road reconstruction amount to approximately one million dollars.

About Russell Township...

Russell Township is a community 20 miles east of the city of Cleveland. The residents of Russell enjoy excellent schools, libraries and services where young couples are starting families and where more mature couples are enjoying the peace and serenity of rolling wooded hills. There is a history that reaches back to the first family to settle here, the Gideon Russell family in 1818. They built their home on Chillicothe Road just south of the town center.  Click to Continue...
